Judging Millennials – How Stereotypes Affected My Thinking

Even if I am not dominated by negative thoughts, I discovered that I was judging millennials.    I explored this recently.  Here is a recap of some of the show.

  • I don’t know where and who came up with naming a group of people based upon when they were born? Is this useful? I suspect that it was born out of commercialism and marketing based upon age groups.
  • Have you heard some of these things about millennials? Challenge to manage in the work place, entitled mentality, poor communication skills, internet and video game junkies, Facebook dominated, lazy, and no leadership skills.
  • When society is creating judgments, look out.
  • If millennials are lazy, but I meet a millennial who is not lazy, are millennials still lazy?
  • Here’s the argument: The premise: All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Conclusion: Therefore, Socrates is mortal.
  • Let’s call the bottle thrower Johnny. The premise: Millennials are entitled. Johnny is a Millennial. Conclusion: Therefor Johnny is entitled?
  • Not only must you challenge the bad thinking that your mind creates, but also the messages that society might be feeding you.
  • Don’t categorize people based on age – don’t predict who they and their future actions.
  • We all have our bad moments, but our slips and errors do not define us.
